The aim of this uGroup is to help members to start to identify distractions in their walk with Christ
- Nehemiah 4:6-8, 14-15
- Nehemiah 6: 1-9
- Acts 16:16-18
- Acts 3:6
- Matthew 4:1-11
Any fun and entertaining welcome and icebreaker would be enough here.
Any icebreaker where distractions can be a component, which increases difficulty to accomplish a set goal, would be perfect. Such as a person that is blindfolded. The individual then needs to achieve some sort of result while being distracted.
Ask relevant questions at the start:
- What is a Distraction?
- What kind of distractions are there in our everyday life?
- What is the result of the distraction?
- At what moment in you day do these distractions come?
- Is it possible to fight distractions?
- Is it possible to not be distracted?
- How do you fight distractions?
The key here is to build a foundation of understanding what a distraction is and the result of those distractions.
(Ask individuals by name to read the scriptures)
In these scriptures there are examples of distraction:
- Nehemiah 4:6-8, 14-15 (Fear)
- Nehemiah 6: 1-9 (People)
- Acts 16:16-18 (Pride/People)
- Acts 3:6 (Lack)
It is important here to ask questions that would cause members to go into self reflection of their lives. To pin point those things that are drawing them away from Jesus or their purpose.
In these scriptures there are examples of countering distractions:
- Matthew 4:1-11
- Mark 1:35
The purpose here is to focus on Jesus. Worship songs that remind us of Jesus. Songs of Grace.
Minister according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Pray with those who want to recommit their lives, new salvations and those who have distractions that seems to strong for them to deal with (addictions).
